We live in Bellevue WA, which is about eight miles east of Seattle, connected to the major metropolitan city by both the 520 Floating Bridge and the I-90 Floating Bridge. Bellevue rests between Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish and borders the cities of Kirkland, Redmond, Issaquah, Sammamish, Renton, Mercer Island, and--across the lake--Seattle.
Nestled against the foothills of the Cascade volcanic Mountain Range, and with a population of 123,000+, Bellevue is the 5th largest city in WA and has a booming economy. (For those interested, the largest cities in the state are, in order: Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma, Vancouver, and Bellevue). Bellevue was voted by CNN Money.com as one of the top 100 places to live (in the top 25). The city is developing into a major economic powerhouse for high tech and corporate headquarters; and is thought to be headed toward becoming a major player like Seattle rather than a supporting bedroom community. Home to numerous skyscrapers and shopping centers, Bellevue is a clean city with a lower crime rate and an international feel. In fact, nearly 25% of the population was born outside the US and nearly 50 languages are spoken within the Bellevue school district.
Bellevue is also an artistic community with various orchestral and theatrical groups and home to a number of bestselling authors. The climate is mild-to-moderate, with highs in the winter averaging in the low 40s and highs in the summer ranging from mid-60s to lower 70s. A scattered handful of 80 and 90 degree days peak during summer, and a scattered handful of 30 degree days in the winter make up the outside range of temperatures, though extremes have occurred. The average rainfall for Bellevue ranges around 36 inches a year.
