Aside from the action, one of the things I wanted to accomplish in this book was to reconcile Menolly with her father–to bring him around to accept her as his daughter once again. I also wanted to give Menolly the feeling that she could have a normal life–as normal as possible–like everyone else, and to help her step into finally accepting herself instead of being afraid of her powers. I felt that marrying her sweetheart would help her in that.
