Eighty some minutes later, after the movie:
Honestly? This is yet another terrible movie from Ed Wood. The first six minutes at least sounds like nothing so much as a government PSA from the 40s or 50’s warning people of the terrors of communism, or something. As usual, the effects are awful and the acting is not very good.
I’d say it’s a hair better than Glen or Glenda or Plan 9, but that’s kinda like saying the turd sitting on the sidewalk is better than the one on the underside of your shoe fortunately it’s a short film by todays standards. It’s another of the sit down and heckle with your friends variety. Is it worth watching on it’s own? Hell no. But with friends? Yes, it’s worth a giggle.
Actually, I’m the opposite. I think it’s more incomprehensible than both Glen or Glenda and Plan 9. And I enjoyed both of those far more. I did, however, find the fake skeletons sitting at the séance table amusing, and the MONGO MONGO MONGO scene was just bizarre! At first I thought I was hearing MONDO MONDO MONDO and that seemed like it belonged in a newer movie (only the gods know WHY I thought that but I was tired at the time). Then I realized it was MONGO and was totally confused.
There were a few memorable quotes, including: “Monsters! Space people! Mad doctors! They didn’t teach me about such things in the police academy!” And “This is impossible! I hired actors to play the dead. You’re not my actors!” All in all, definitely a bad movie night movie! (We couldn’t find a good trailer of this movie but honestly, do you need one?)
NEXT WEEK: we return you to the world of wonderful movies that people really want to watch! (Well, bad movies are fun, but a month of Ed Wood has left us both a little shell shocked).Posted in Movies |
